AWAY AWAY …………for you

El Karm Ecolodge

RockSea Resort

Workshops: spiritual, artistic and more

The Ecolodge, situated near St. Katherine and Mount Sinai, offers a perfect location for workshops. It is peaceful and quiet, simple but clean, with a perfect atmosphere. There are many possibilities for excursions and treks in the near surroundings.
RockSea in Nuweiba offers a seaside alternative for a few days of relaxation, swimming and snorkelling.

We organise your accommodation and extra activities from A – Z so you can concentrate on your workshop.

Bird watching in the migratory season

The Sinai is a stop-over point for birds during the migration from Europe to Africa and back. There are three main areas where many birds stop over:
» National Protected Area Zerenike along the north coast not far from El Arish
» The Bitter Lakes on the west coast just north of The Suez Canal Tunnel
» Ras Mohammed National Park on the southern tip of the Sinai

Also in the high mountain area of St. Katherine migratory birds stop over, especially the smaller songbirds and some birds of prey.

Migration periods are in the autumn around the end of September – the end of October and in the spring during the month of March and April.

We organise trips that can encompass all of the above mentioned areas or a part of them, giving you in the same time an impression of the Sinai from north to south and from the coast to the high mountain areas.

In Depth Treks

  1. The desert and High Mountain Region have animal and plant-life you wouldn’t notice if no special attention was given to it.

We organise camel and walking treks in the area of St. Katherine and other parts in the Sinai with special focus on the animal life you walk past with or without noticing (birds, mammals, reptiles etc) and the plants and their usefulness for the Bedouins (herbal, medicinal, fodder etc).

  1. The Sinai has an interesting geological history. Different periods in the geological history can be seen when travelling through the Sinai. The Sinai has also been a thoroughfare and a place of importance to people throughout the centuries. These people have all left their mark in the Sinai landscape.

The treks we organise will be a passage through time, concentrating either on the geological history or human history (from pharaohs and the bronze age to the Nabatean era and the Byzantine era to the crusaders and the Ottomans). These treks will combine the use of jeeps and camels, as larger distances will have to be covered.

Reservations

If you want to stay in one of the St. Katherine Hotels or Camps or in the Ecolodge we can make the reservations for you.

Just for you…

You let us know how you would like to spend your holiday in the Sinai, if it’s trekking or diving or surfing or just relaxing, and we can make the arrangements for you.

AWAY AWAY...... for the Sinai
(the Bedouins and the environment)

Bedouin Crafts

In our office in St. Katherine we have products for sale made and produced by the Gebeliya: carpets, beadwork and embroidery, sculpturing and woodwork, fresh fruits from the orchards, herbs, wild honey etc.
We are stimulating the Gebeliya to revive and hold on to the old crafts and herbal knowledge.

Environmental Projects

The Sinai has a very sensitive environment with species often living on the edge of survival. The Sinai also has some species, animal as well as plant, that are endemic – they can only be found in the Sinai. Many species are rare and on the verge of extinction. Measures are needed to protect this very special environment, especially as there is more and more touristic pressure.

We hope to support and initialise projects and research that can contribute to helping the environment of the St. Katherine Protectorate.

During our treks we supply wood and gas cookers so wood along the route won't be depleted and plants damaged.

All members of the trek will be supplied with a small rubbish bag so rubbish found along the way can be collected.

15% of our earnings will be used to support the environment and the Gebeliya and improve their living conditions (water quality, education, healthcare).
