The Blue Mountains or Blue Desert is a name given to an area of 1.5 km length, north-east of St. Katherine, where a Belgian artist, Jean Verame, with the permission of president Sadat painted a great many rocks and boulders blue (1980-1981). Blue, as a symbol of peace, to celebrate the end of the war between Israel and Egypt. After more than 20 years the colours are slowly fading and disappearing.
It has been an object of discussion and maybe therefore also a (large) piece of art. |
