Ras Mohammed National Park

Ras Mohammed National Park has a surface area of 480 km2, and not only encompasses the head of the Sinai (=Ras Mohammed), but also the island of Tiran and all the shorelines between the Sharm harbour in the south to the southern border of Nabq Protected Area to the north.

Typical of Ras Mohammed is the raised fossil coral reef representing ancient shorelines from 15.000 to 2 million years ago

Under water the living coral reefs are spectacular. A large variety of small, colourful reef fish can be seen around the just as colourful reef. But also large fish can be seen that can't be seen as often in the gulf of Aqaba, like barracudas, groupers, sharks and rays. Here off shore diving is possible. Keep in mind to use the easy entrances, and not to walk over coral or damage coral in any way.

The wrecks off shore can only be reached by boat. Be careful for strong currents!

Ras Mohammed is also a stopover place for many migratory birds, mainly storks, birds of prey and herons. The landscape is quite barren with only a small stroke of mangroves (Nabq has a much larger area covered with mangroves).
