Sheikh Nabi Saleh is considered to be one of the most honoured Muslim saints according to the Sinai bedouins. It is not clear who Nabi Saleh was and in which period of time he lived.
Near the tomb of Sheikh Nabi Saleh there are remains of early bronze age dwellings (3000 - 2700BC), circular stone huts, corrals for goats and sheep, burial tumuli, belonging to copper miners who worked the mines of Wadi Riquita, some 10 km north east of St. Katherine.
The police checkpoint for entering St, Katherine and continuing to wadi Feran and the ticket office for entering St. Katherine Protectorate are located at Sheikh Nabi Saleh. Tickets cost 5 Egyptian Pounds for Egyptian residents and 3$ for foreigners. |
