Climb up the snake path to Abu Gifa pass (see also Gebel Abbas Pasha (11)). Go down to wadi Tuboug to the left. Follow the wadi passing orchards, fig trees, and Ein Shekeiyah (a seepage from the rock, with some ferns) until you reach a shelter with a reed roof, next to an old fig tree. A lot of wild oregano and mint grows here as at this point two water drainages meet. To the left is the entrance to wadi Shagg. Wadi Shagg is a narrow wadi with especially in the spring many water holes and pools, giant boulders and some ruins from the Byzantine period. This walk requires some clambering and jumping over water holes. Wadi Shagg connects to Wadi Ghazna, a wide wadi with view over Mount Katherine to the left.

Kharazet el Shagg |
Just before reaching Wadi Ghazna, there is a small inlet to the left leading to a small waterfall with a pool called Kharazet el Shagg, with water almost throughout the year. It's a nice place to relax for a while. Clambering up the waterfall you reach a narrow valley with a large number of young willow trees following a water drainage. Following the valley you end up at Wadi Ghazna again. Turning right, follow Wadi Ghazna over a low ridge until you reach a cross-road. From here you can either go back (to the right) through wadi Tuboug or continue (straight) along wadi Zawatiin to Gebel Abbas Pasha. |
