Air-Transport

In the Sinai there are 3 airports:

  1. St. Katherine Airport: At the moment this airport is only used for VIP and Emergency flights, it is not open for charter flights.
  2. Taba Airport:Taba Airport lies approx. 40 km west of Taba. Egypt Air flies to Taba from Cairo 3 times a week.
    There are also a number of charter companies flying from Europe to Taba.
  3. Sharm el Sheikh Airport: Sharm el Sheikh is the largest and busiest airport in the Sinai.
    Egypt Air has daily flights from Cairo, Alexandria or Luxor.
    Charter companies from Europe have flights twice a week (or more).

Visa's are required for Egypt (approx. $ 15) and can be acquired at the airport or place of entry. If planning to visit a neighboring country, a multiple entry visa is needed. A visa is valid for one month. An extended visa can be bought inside Egypt at the various passport offices.
For South Sinai a free visa is given, valid for 2 weeks, if entering Sinai at Taba, Nuweiba or Sharm el Sheikh. The west and north of the Sinai are excluded from the South Sinai visa. One is allowed to visit St. Katherine with the South Sinai visa.


Ferry-Transport

There are two ferry lines to and from the Sinai:

  1. Hurghada - Sharm el Sheikh: There is a fast ferry every Saturday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, the crossing takes 1 ½ hours. The ferry leaves Sharm el Sheikh at 5/6 pm and Hurghada at 5 am (Monday) or 8/9 am (Saturday and Tuesday, Thursday).(For information call 069-3660764 (Sharm el Sheikh)
  2. Akaba - Nuweiba: There are two ferries daily between Akaba and Nuweiba. The slow ferry takes 3-5 hours, leaving Nuweiba at 3 pm. Cars can be taken on the slow ferry. The fast ferry takes 1 hour and leaves Nuweiba at 3.30 pm. Times can change!(for prices and exact dep. times call the ticket office in Nuweiba: 069 3520427 )

 

Bus-Transport

Below is the bus timetable for busses (East Delta) travelling in the Sinai or from Cairo/Suez to places in the Sinai. Be sure to check the times at the local bus station, departure times can change!
